Entry Manager Member – membership entry requirements
Introduction
CIMSPA membership provides individuals working in the sport and physical activity sector with professional recognition for their chosen occupation. It provides assurance to employers, clients, colleagues and the public an individual holds the appropriate qualification(s) and continuing professional development (CPD) to be competent in their role.
To be eligible for membership, individuals must demonstrate they meet the entry requirements for their occupational membership category. These are based on CIMSPA professional standards.
Entry requirements
The entry requirements for Entry Manager Member are:
- Working in an entry manager position in the sport and physical activity sector as individuals operating in a first-line management position, who are able to work independently under some supervision and direction. They may be, for example, duty managers, fitness managers, coach managers or sports development officers.
- Evidence of relevant CPD within the last five years.

- 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management + 1 years experience
- Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Leisure Management + 1 years experience
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Management + 1 years experience
- Active IQ Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management + 1 years experience
- Active IQ Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Management + 1 years experience
- Active IQ Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management and Leadership + 1 years experience
- IAO Level 3 Diploma in Operational Management and Leadership + 1 years experience
- IAO Level 5 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership + 1 years experience
- YMCA Level 3 Certificate in Leisure Management + 1 years experience
- YMCA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management + 1 years experience
- No qualification and 3 years experience
Occupation scope
Entry Managers are employed in the sport and physical activity sector as individuals operating in a first-line management position, who are able to work independently under some supervision and direction.
When they have achieved an education product aligned with this standard they will have:
- Demonstrated both knowledge and skills in a range of management related topics under the themes of service improvement, people management and development, business functions and operations and risk management at the entry management level.
- Developed personal effectiveness in their management role and contributed to organisational performance.
Employers should support those meeting this professional standard with training, mentoring and supervised experience to gain knowledge and skills as a key part of their career progression, to enable them to undertake a management role and prepare them for future progression.
This occupation exists within a sector that plays an important role in improving the health of the nation, creating opportunities that get more people, more active, more often.
